Marites Allen forecasts good tidings in the Year of the Earth Dog

Choosing not to believe what a geomancer told her that she should not marry the man she had fallen in love with for the second time—and in fact, not re-marry at all—Marites Allen took matters into her hands and vowed to learn the rudiments of feng shui herself. She even promised to surpass the knowledge of the “master” whom she felt had given her the wrong advice.

With love in her heart and determination in her gut, she then went on to study under the true masters of the craft in such countries as China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong among others. And with wisdom gained she proved the “phony master” wrong with her marriage to British husband Nicholas staying strong to this very day, not to mention a renowned profession in geomancy she pulled off along the way.

But while Allen’s practice continues to be a legitimate and flourishing business, the loving wife and mother tells The Sunday Times Magazine that at the end of the day, it is still the knowledge that she has helped others lead balanced, harmonious, healthier and more prosperous lives that truly brings her fulfilment.

“It is both a gift and advocacy. I have personally experienced the positive effects of feng shui in my life and I want to share it with as many people as I can, so they too can have the peace and prosperity that is there to enjoy,” Allen passionately stated in an interview at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila.

Backed with a Master in Business Administration from the Ateneo De Manila University, Allen continues to shuffle between London and Manila to tend to her family and career. In 2012, she opened the Frigga Charmed Life boutique in several malls across Metro Manila, establishing a strong online presence via websites WealthLuck by Prosperity Mall and online shopping portal Lazada.

“Feng shui is simply about achieving balance in our daily lives. It is about balancing the energies and the natural elements that surround us. Once we are able to do this, we are well on our way to material well-being and happiness. I don’t know a single person who doesn’t want money and happiness in life,” she said.

The first Filipino to receive the prestigious title “Master in Feng Shui” from the world-renowned International Feng Shui Association, Allen stood proudly with four other masters when the global annual event of feng shui practitioners was held in the Philippines for the first time this year. She is also the only Filipino member of the Feng Shui Societies of London, Singapore and the World of Feng-Shui Malaysia.

She counts among her countless satisfied clients, prominent businessmen and showbiz celebrities as Kris Aquino, Boy Abunda and Ruffa Gutierrez. No matter a person’s stature in life, however, Allen is more than willing to help them prosper, thus releasing her annual forecast for the coming Chinese New Year below.

‘Stable’ configuration

According to Allen, 2018 is a most stable and exciting year what with the configuration of the number 9 from the last two figures.

The eleventh animal in the Chinese zodiac, the Dog, will take over as the ruling animal for the coming year. And as the dominant element of the Dog is Earth, it indicates stability through the entire year, which should allow those who have the Earth element in their chart to organize their personal and professional lives more confidently and efficiently.

“2018 is exciting as it is the auspicious configuration of the number 9. Nine is the most supreme and most powerful number, and the only number in multiplication that results in itself again [when adding the digits of products]. We have 9 x 2 = 18 and 1 + 8 = 9; 9 x 4 = 36 and 3 + 6 = 9 and so on and so forth,” Allen elaborated.
The Year of Earth Dog commences on February 16, 2018.

Location and stars

According to Allen, it is important to know how each animal sign corresponds to the eight directions on the compass. There is the East – Rabbit, West – Rooster, North – Rat, South – Horse, Southwest – Sheep and Monkey, Northeast – Tiger and Ox, Northwest – Dog and Boar, and Southeast – Dragon and Snake.
Next, one also has to be aware of the nine flying stars and their meanings for specified times.

“The Flying Star School of feng shui is a system that uses time dimension to analyze the type of energy that dominates a particular compass direction. It changes yearly, monthly, daily, and even hourly. According to its principles, positive or negative energies may create harmony or conflict in a specific sector, and it pays to know how these stars affect different locations in the home or office,” Allen stressed.

The Lucky Stars, therefore, are as follows:

#1 White Star (Element: Water) brings new opportunities and financial gains. It also symbolizes good reputation, as well as career and academic success.

#4 Romance, Education and Travel Star (Element: Wood) is the star of romance, travel, and self-development. It governs academics and scholarly pursuits.

#6 Heaven Luck Star (Element: Metal) brings a nobleman’s luck or help from influential people and is also the star for overall good fortune and potential windfall.

#8 Prosperity Star (Element: Earth) is also known as the Primary Wealth Star and brings monetary gains from different sources of funds, as well as good health and career success.

#9 Magnifying Star (Element: Fire) symbolizes future expansion, fame, and prosperity. Its effects may not be immediate, but they provide long-term profits.

The Unlucky Stars on the other hand are:

#2 Illness Star (Element: Earth), which brings health issues wherever it has flown, that is, illness, stress, possible accidents, and feelings of lethargy.

#3 Conflict Star (Element: Wood) casts negative influence on personal relationships. It manifests in arguments, betrayal, gossips, and even legal problems.

#5 Misfortune Star (Element: Earth) is the most dreaded star because it brings many possible things that could go wrong with health, relationships, business, career, and finances.

#7 Violence, Injury, Robbery Star (Element: Metal) is another vicious star to be careful of as its negative nature causes burglary, violence, rivalry, loss of wealth, and possible lawsuits.

How do these locations and stars figure in one’s fortune, then? To cite an example, the Dragon and Snake,
which are in the Southeast location, have auspicious month in July with the Prosperity Star 8. It portends financial windfall, and is therefore the best time to buy into stocks, bet on the lottery and win in raffles. More specifically, July 22 is a triple lucky day for the Dragon and the Snake, happening only every nine years.

Marites Allen has 9 pieces of advice for millennials

• Be aggressive. It is not the time to be complacent. Be a go-getter, get what you want in life, not to race ahead of others but for self-improvement.

• Be confident. In terms of statistics there are some youths who become depressed because of social media. They lose confidence from the bullying. Focus on your strengths and not on the weaknesses.

• Make time for the family. Because of social media, millennials become too detached. You may be busy growing up, but you may not realize your parents are also growing old.

• Be godly in ways. Make sure to have time to be in touch with your religion as your parents taught you. Not many have the privilege to go to church and enjoy practicing their faith.

• Be knowledgeable of how things are happening. While it is true that parents are learning much from their children, there are many other things that millennials need to learn as well. Do not be confined to what is happening only in your locality, region or city but be aware of what is happening in other countries as well. It is easy to access information today.

• Continue the tradition of Filipino hospitality. Says Marites Allen, “One of the things I learned is that Filipinos are really seen [and considered by other nationalities]as hospitable. The youth can do a lot in promoting tourism. I say so because if you go to El Nido in Palawan, it’s flooded with backpackers and they always love to go back because Filipinos are very hospitable. So, help us bring the tourism of the country by being more appealing to the other side of the world. They love our country. And it’s true, I’ve been to many places on earth, there’s nothing like the beaches of the Philippines.”

• Be responsible. When you post something [on social media], remember there are always two sides to a story. There is the big news, the real news and the actual news. Be factual and be truthful. Do not go by trends so that you follow what a certain celebrity says or does. You have to be real. Make sure to think twice before posting something. Ask yourself if what you say will affect someone.

• Finish school. Do not be too aggressive to leave the family. Finish your studies first. Get a degree. There are those who are itching to start a business and leave school. Shares Allen, “My son negotiated that since he’s graduating next year, he asked permission to start the business he’s been dreaming to put up, which I allowed. But never abandon the chance of completing a degree. It is very important. I always say that my parents were very poor, and we had nothing in life. But all they gave us was education and that is what we have up to this day.”

• Be loyal to your country. Despite the many advantages you see in other countries, there is nothing like the Philippines. The Filipino human spirit is very unique so love your country. Be loyal and protect it and make sure the future generations will do the same thing.

Feng Shui Convention

For the first time in the Philippines the largest group of international Feng Shui Masters and Grand Masters visited Manila on November 18 and 19 to celebrate the 14th International Feng Shui Convention (IFSC).

The IFSC has been held many times in Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai, and Melbourne. This year, Marites Allen welcomed four feng shui grandmasters and almost 20 international feng shui masters to Manila. It was the first time for many of them to visit the country, including Raymond Lo, Stephen Skinner, Tan Khoon Yong, Vincent Koh, Yap Boh Chu, Goh Guan Leong and Jin Peh.Meanwhile, the Filipina feng shui expert is scheduled to host her own annual Feng Shui Convention to welcome the Year of the Earth Dog on January 6, 2018 at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila.

“As we welcome the Year of the Earth Dog, it is understandable that destiny will change. What worked for you in the Year of the Rooster may not be applicable for the new year. Learning how to work around the different elements and their symbolisms is the best strategy to achieve improved luck and amass prosperity and happiness in the process for the year ahead,” Allen disclosed.

What’s in store for you in the Year of the Earth Dog?

Starting 16 February 2018 until 4 February 2019, the Earth Dog will take over as the ruling animal of the Chinese zodiac. For feng shui followers, the changing of the lunar year brings different opportunities and certain challenges for each animal sign. Understandably, many people look forward to the luck forecasts for their respective birth signs as they go through another year.

International feng shui master Marites Allen gave a briefing on the luck indications for each of the zodiac signs in a media conference last Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Marco Polo Hotel. Although she said that not all animal signs are lucky during their own year, the Dog holds rosy prospects for the Dog-born. The Tiger, Horse, and Rabbit, who are all zodiac allies of the Dog, may share the same good fortune. The Dragon, who is the conflict animal of the Monkey, may face some challenges next year, according to Marites.

To guide everyone in maximizing the positive energies and deflecting the negative ones indicated in each animal chart, Marites has written 12 horoscope books for 2018. “It took long, exhausting hours to come up with those books. It was a production nightmare, but it had to be done,” says Marites. There is just so much opportunity next year that people need to know about, she added.

She shared a sneak preview into the luck readings for each astrological sign:

· RAT: Long-term benefits expected but need to be wary of the misfortune star.

· OX: Pleasant news related to promotion or further career development.

· TIGER: A reasonably good year, but must control temper and avoid confrontations.

· RABBIT: Monetary gains from last year may be extended to this year

· DRAGON: Take it easy and make sure to implement a calculated risk for anything that you do in 2018.

· SNAKE: There will be more chances for your upward achievements

· HORSE: A very rewarding year especially in the love department.

· SHEEP: You may have to redouble your efforts to achieve whatever goals you wanted.

· MONKEY: Many positive events to look forward to.

· ROOSTER: Do not be too busy that you neglect your personal health.

· DOG: New beginnings are in the horizon and income growing in 2018 is very possible.

· BOAR: A great start for a new year; however, betrayal may be in the horizon.

Each book provides monthly readings for one’s career, business, health, and relationships. There are also feng shui suggestions for the home, auspicious fashion and accessories, guide to the lucky and unlucky house orientations for each month, and many more useful tips.

The books are now available at all Frigga shops and ordering online at and Please call 0920-9509390 for details.
